It's a new season and with it brings a new attitude and likely new approach from the Battlefords North Stars.

Both local high school football teams got in the win column this past week. The North Battleford ComprehensiveHigh School Vikings were on the road for their latest matchup in football action.

On Saturday the puck will drop for the start of the new Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season for the Humboldt Broncos. It will be another step in building this year’s edition of the Broncos.

This season ended at the 14:23 mark of the second quarter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Week 1 home game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

After six days off following two games against the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Lloydminster Bobcats, the Battlefords North Stars were back in action over the weekend.

The players on midget hockey teams are generally made up of 17-and 18-year- old kids. A lot of the players are developing their game before they make the jump to the next level, whether it be junior A or major junior.

In its season opener, the Humboldt Collegiate Institute football team avenged last year’s provincial AA championship game loss. On Sept. 4, the Mohawks downed the Clavet Cougars, 27-14, in nine-man action at Glenn Hall Park.
