The regular season is on again for the Battlefords AAA Stars and it was a familiar rival that they faced at home to begin their hockey season at the Civic Centre.

The Battlefords North Stars extended their hot start to 4-0 to begin their 2015-16 SJHL season after a 4-2 win at home to the Yorkton Terriers Friday. It was not just the team off to a hot start, but also their individual players.

There was very little for fans of the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings to cheer about Friday night. St. Joseph Guardians came into town and beat the Vikings 31-7.

The John Paul II Crusaders were home Thursday to the Kindersley Kobras in nine-man high school football action in North Battleford.

The Battlefords North Stars have made a deal to send one of their forwards to the English River Miners of the Junior A Superior International Junior Hockey League.

Derby girls ready to rumble

The Humboldt Collegiate Institute football team demonstrated impressive depth while posting its second victory of the season. On Sept. 18, the Mohawks dominated Tisdale, 62-14, on the road. That improved HCI’s record to 2-0.

Don’t look now but the Battlefords North Stars are on a roll to start the 2015-16 SJHL campaign. The North Stars are now 3-0 after another road victory, this time at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt where they toppled the Broncos 6-2.

Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was in Penticton Sept. 11 through 14 to attend the 2015 Young Stars Classic at the South Okanagan Events Centre. The Vancouver Canucks hosted the event.

It is still pre-season for teams in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, with the Battlefords Stars taking on the Beardy's Blackhawks in a home and home exhibition series on the weekend.
