The following individuals were recognized at the Horizon Central Athletic Association (HCAA) Spring Meeting on April 23 for their outstanding contributions to school athletics programs.

North Battleford’s own Andrew Albers got the call to the Big Leagues from the Toronto Blue Jays Friday morning, and joined the team in Cleveland for the opening game of their three-game series against the Indians. It was a short stay, however.

The Battlefords Wildlife Federation hosted the provincial angling and big game awards for the first time April 15.

The Battlefords Midget Stars wrapped up the 2014-15 season with their annual awards banquet May 2.

The Humboldt Collegiate Institute junior boys badminton team displayed its depth at a home doubles tournament on April 23. The double team of Dylan Larson and Rylan Marianchuk finished second.

The warm weather is coming in and with it, Humboldt’s slo-pitch league. This year the league will be split up into two: spring and summer leagues, due to difficulty getting the available ball diamonds.

Buzzing around the Elgar Petersen Arena ice last weekend were a number of players who hope to factor into the future of the Humboldt Broncos. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team held its annual spring camp April 25-27.

As I write this, there is a chance that I’m going to go 6-for-8 in my first round playoff predictions. The Lightning and Red Wings don’t play game seven until Wednesday night, so I can’t officially count that towards my tally.

Alex Pernitsky decided to play his junior hockey in the Alberta Junior Hockey League instead of staying at home in Saskatchewan. Looks like it paid off.

Justin Wood, who saw massive success in his college golf aspirations with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks, has accepted a spot on the Division II golf team at the University of Monetevallo in Alabama.
