There was football under the lights Thursday at Beaver Lions Stadium as the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings battled the Bishop James Mahoney High School Saints.

With strong defence in the second half and a great running game last week, the Humboldt Collegiate Institute football team kept their record spotless. At halftime on Oct. 2, the Mohawks led Tisdale by just a touchdown 21-14.

In order for the Humboldt Broncos to earn success on the ice this season, they need a strong team off of it. “It takes a lot people rowing together,” Humboldt head coach and general manager Darcy Haugan said.

It has been announced that Don Morgan, provincial minister of Education, has proclaimed Oct.x 11 – 17, 2015 as School Sport Weekin Saskatchewan. The announcement was made by Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association this week.

The Battlefords North Stars returned to their winning ways at the SJHL Showcase event in Warman. The North Stars prevailed 5-4 over the Estevan Bruins in a game that wasn’t decided until the ninth round of the shootout session.

The Battlefords Sharks have begun the season undefeated and in first-place. It's only two games in, but first place is indeed where the team sits after their first weekend of play to begin the female midget AAA hockey campaign.

If there was one area still an unknown for the Battlefords North Stars in the early part of the season, it was how they would react to their first truly lengthy stretch of time away from the Civic Centre.

The Battlefords Stars were hoping to extend their record to three wins in a row Thursday night when they took on the Saskatoon Contacts at home at the Civic Centre.

Both North Battleford-based high school football teams took to the field Thursday.
