New Horizons started the new season at the Northland Curling Centre Oct. 13 with 12 teams participating. Some new curlers, who formerly curled at Saskatchewan Hospital, have been welcomed to the league.

All weekend long, it was the Battlefords taking on the Notre Dame Hounds in the SJHL, female midget AAA and male midget AAA hockey levels.

PA 4 Sharks 1 The Battlefords Sharks were on the road Wednesday for their game against the Prince Albert A&W Bears, but wound up on the short end of a 4-1 score. The game stayed close for the first two periods.

The 12-2 Battlefords North Stars were the highest scoring team in the entire Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League going into home action against Nipawin and Notre Dame Friday and Saturday.

Thursday marked a historic day in the short existence of John Paul II Crusaders high school football. The Crusaders hosted their very first playoff football game, playing on their brand new home field Thursday afternoon.

It’s a new season of curling at Twin Rivers Curling Club. The club held an icebreaker event Oct. 8 at Northland Power Curling Centre to celebrate the arrival of new curling stones from Kay’s of Scotland.

The Humboldt Broncos went 2-1 last week in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The squad downed La Ronge, 4-1, and Yorkton, 5-1. Sandwiched in between was a 5-0 loss to Finning Division rival Battlefords.

It was a wild, penalty-filled evening at the Civic Centre Tuesday night as the Battlefords AAA Stars were taking on the Beardy's Blackhawks.
