After starting the season 2-0, the Battlefords Sharks have fallen on some hard times of late in female midget AAA action.

A bad third period sank the Battlefords AAA Stars against the Prince Albert Mintos on the road at the Art Hauser Centre Sunday afternoon. The five-goal third period turned what had been a back-and-forth affair into a one-sided final score.

The senior Vikings were in Prince Albert Wednesday evening to take on the St. Mary Marauders in their first round playoff game. It was not to be. Before their home crowd, the Marauders defeated the Vikings convincingly, 28-7.

The My Community Cares initiative to raise funds to finance a new day centre for the Battlefords Trade and Education Centre has announced more donations to the project.

While there is a lot of hockey action going on in the Battlefords right now, it’s still a few weeks before the season starts up for teams in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League.

Fresh off the heels of yet another winning week, another member of the Battlefords North Stars has earned some welcome recognition. Cody Spagrud of the North Stars was named SJHL player of the week.

The John Paul II Crusaders boys soccer team will be in action again this weekend as they head to Regina for the provincial playoffs. The 2A boys playoffs are hosted by Regina High School Athletics Association and will take place this weekend Oct.

The 3A nine-man football playoffs go to the quarterfinal stage this Sunday. That’s the day when Esterhazy will play host to North Battleford John Paul II Crusaders in playoff action.

Last week the Humboldt Collegiate Institute football team wrapped up an undefeated regular season and is now turning its focus to the playoffs. The Mohawks downed the Melfort Comets, 45-12, on Oct. 23.

Anthony Kapelke is appreciative of the opportunity to be the Humboldt Broncos’ captain for a second straight season. The 20-year-old defenceman captained the team last season under head coach and general manager Ryan Smith.
