They were only a point and a half apart in the regular season and it came down to two points in the final. The Three Lakes Avengers were in Muenster on October 5 to challenge the Cougars for the junior boys' soccer league title.

The North Battleford Comprehensive High School senior Vikings played their final regular season game in front of an energized crowd at Beaver Lions Stadium Thursday and the atmosphere helped them to a 15-0 win.

The rinks around the Battlefords were fairly quiet on the weekend, but that doesn't mean there we no local minor hockey teams in action. The Peewee AA Barons were in Meadow Lake Saturday and pulled out a 5-3 win.

For the fourth straight season, seven service clubs from the Battlefords have stepped up and sponsored another year of the North Battleford public skating program.

The two teams were closely matched all season and the final was no exception. The Three Lakes Avengers hosted the Muenster Cougars in a Horizon School Division Junior Girls' Soccer League final on October 4.

The Battlefords North Stars still seem to be struggling with consistency issues, but did manage to win once during a three-game weekend road trip.

It may be their first year, but a new local football team is keeping up with the big boys. The Lakeside Bombers, based in Watson, hosted the Porcupine Plain Bears in six-man football action on October 8.

Oct. 4, the H. Hardcastle School Grade 5 and 6 class travelled to Glaslyn to take part in the annual elementary soccer tournament. The boys' team went through the tourney undefeated and once again returned home with the championship.
