The year begins with the moon right beside the sun - new moon. Saturn and Mars are to the west, just before sunrise. A couple of days later, Venus hangs within two degrees in the western evening sky. The moon is full Jan.

Ed, my neighbour next door, gets more irritated with the Christmas season each year. Ed feels that there is always more and more pressure on him to spend his money.

There are many plants associated with the season that is upon us, many of them rooted (pardon the pun) in past. But they have become mere decorations so much so that their original meanings or origins have become forgotten or pushed to the side.

Soooo whaaas happinin'? Minus 20 and 30 and all of a sudden it turns to five below. I'm loving it! The winter is really long at -30C. Could have done without the wind though. The snow even melted a little on the patio after Bev shoveled (again).

Dear Editor What a simply wonderful time of year this is. Looking around, I see a blanket of fresh snow, sparkling and pure, lights shining invitingly and decorations adding warmth and colour to the scene.

Ed, my neighbour next door, tends to be pretty relaxed about time. He has been five or 10 minutes late, for more than a few appointments.

The holiday season is truly upon us. Some people have completed their Christmas shopping, while the rest of us are envious of them. Especially as we spend our precious resource of time waiting in lines buying that "perfect" gift.

Dear Editor One Sunday recently I needed to be in Saskatoon no later than 11 a.m. My kids called to say, "the roads are terrible, we'll worry about you driving. Please take the bus. It's so easy." So, I needed to take the earliest bus - 6:05 a.m.

Dear Editor: I read with interest your article, Lilac church: historic landmark needs repairs (Regional Optimist Dec. 5). I will try to relate some of the memories and activities in the 1950s and '60s.
