Well, folks, it's that time again. As we bid farewell to this year and this decade, I for one find it hard to grasp that we're hours away from the first day of 2011.

January begins with the moon as a daytime object, rising just before the sun at about 7:30 a.m. and crossing the sky before it sets at 1:30 p.m. It's just a thin crescent and difficult to see. New moon occurs Jan. 4, and full moon is Jan. 19.

City council was once more talking trash at a recent meeting, as the merits of a city wide conversion to roll out bins for garbage collection was debated.

Dear Editor Given the NDP track record on agriculture, healthcare and the economy in Saskatchewan, NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter's remarks in the Dec. 15 issue of the Battlefords News-Optimist are hypocritical and ignore the facts.

Some things never change and yet every time a reader grabs a newspaper there is a new champion being crowned or another aging superstar hanging up their jock straps or sports bras.

I have to say - after looking at what was on offer this weekend at theaters, I am so glad I got out of the business of covering movie box-office results. The movies that rolled out just weren't up to my smarter-than-average intelligence.
