UNITY — After taking out the Mervin Flyers in two straight games with high scores – 10-1 at home and then 17-7 on the road July 15, the Unity Cardinals play the Lashburn Cardinals in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League semis.
It was the Unity Cards who won the first game, 14-4, played in Wilkie July 17. The second game was in Mervin July 21 with game three, if necessary, in Wilkie July 22.
While some might think the results of the series is a foregone conclusion, with the number one team in the league playing the fourth-place team, it was the Lashburn birds who handed Unity their only loss during the regular season. In a game played in Lashburn, June 3, Lashburn were the 8-5 victors.
Unfortunately, the results of this week’s Cardinal games were not available in time for press deadlines.
In the other NSRBL semifinal, the second place and defending champion North Battleford Beavers are playing third-ranked Standard Hill Lakers. The Lakers upset the Beavers in game one of that series, winning a close one 8-7.
The Beavers’ only two losses during the regular season came at the hands of the Unity Cardinals, 6-4, May 30 in North Battleford, and 14-8, June 19 in Wilkie.
