SASKATOON — The leader of the Saskatchewan Liberals has joined the byelection race in Saskatoon Meewasin.

Jeff Walters has announced Wednesday he is running in Meewasin, the seat vacated with the resignation of former NDP leader Ryan Meili.

In his announcement speech, Walters pointed out he grew up in Meewasin. He made the case that he was the best candidate to address issues such as the economy, the health care and education system and COVID-19.

“We are here today to break that silence. We come together in common cause. To bring Meewasin and Saskatchewan into the future. A shared vision, to bring not just ideas, but solutions. The greatest good for the greatest number of people, regardless of ideological beliefs.”

Walters joins two other candidates who were nominated by their parties last week. Nathaniel Teed was nominated by the New Democrats while Kim Groff was nominated by the Sask Party.

The byelection has not yet been called, and a date has not been set.
