REGINA – A correctional officer at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre (RPCC) faces charges after a nearly two-year RCMP investigation into drug trafficking at the facility.

Justin Amyotte, 44, of Regina, was arrested on July 16 and charged with conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance, breach of trust by a public officer, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The investigation started on Sept. 26, 2023, after White Butte RCMP received information about drugs being smuggled into the jail. At the time, a 36-year-old inmate was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and conspiracy. Investigators later identified a 35-year-old woman, believed to be an outside accomplice, who was helping procure and package drugs intended for an RPCC employee.

After executing multiple judicial authorizations, White Butte RCMP determined Amyotte, a correctional officer, was allegedly involved in the smuggling operation.

Amyotte will make his next appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 7.
