REGINA — Rogers is proposing to build a new cell tower in Regina.

Per a report, the communications company is requesting to lease a portion of 750 Pasqua Street in Kinsmen Park North to erect a wireless communications antenna system (cell tower).

The tower would be 25 metres tall and adjacent to the diamonds located in the park.

Rogers has indicated to the city that the cell tower is required to maintain service coverage and that other locations are unavailable.

If approved, Rogers would be required to obtain support from Regina through a “municipal concurrence,” approval from the Canadian Government as the feds handle telecommunication projects and a development permit from Regina.

As for Regina, they would generate $22,000 annually from their standard lease rate for all cell towers. The lease would also have a 10 per cent increase upon every five years of renewal.

The city would also receive $29,282 for the final year of the lease.

The proposed lease would be effective Oct. 1.
