REGINA — SaskPower is investing $10 million in Regina’s central business district.
On Tuesday, the energy company announced an upgrade to the area’s electrical system and improve reliability.
SaskPower said crews will replace equipment that has reached its life cycle, which includes underground cables and duct banks.
Ryan Neufeld, SaskPower vice-president of engineering and construction, said, "This investment will improve overall reliability in central Regina and accommodate growth."
Neufeld said these upgrades will reduce outages and will allow SaskPower to locate and fix disruptions faster.
SaskPower will work with the City of Regina and other utilities to keep disruptions to a minimum.
The work will focus on two main areas. The first is 11th Ave. between Lorne St. and Albert St. from April through Oct. for installing and connecting new duct banks. The second area is Saskatchewan Dr. and Hamilton St., from Sept. to Oct. to install or replace 1.65 kilometres of cable.
