ROSETOWN – A 63-year-old Rosetown man is facing multiple charges after RCMP seized a sword and an imitation firearm following a high-speed pursuit on July 12.
At approximately 9:05 a.m., Rosetown RCMP had responded to reports of a suspicious armed male in a parked truck outside a local business. Officers quickly located the vehicle travelling on Highway 4 and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly fled at high speed, heading south toward Elrose.
In a video posted to social media of the alleged incident, a man is seen putting what looks like a real handgun in the back of his shorts after he was waving it around. The video hasn't been verified by police.
The truck was later found abandoned on a rural approach about 11 kilometres north of Elrose. The suspect, identified as Terry Hanson of Rosetown, was arrested without further incident.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a small sword, a bat, and what initially appeared to be a firearm. Upon closer inspection, officers determined the weapon was a BB gun that closely resembled a real pistol, making it nearly indistinguishable from an actual firearm at a distance.
Hanson has been charged with dangerous driving, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon, flight from police, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of a probation order.
Hanson appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on July 14.
