Estevan artistic swimmers win medals at Sask. Winter Games

Southeast swimmers thrived in team, duet and solo swims.

REGINA - Team Southeast thrived in artistic swimming at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in Regina this week. 

Team SE Connections consists of athletes from the Estevan Mermaids and the Weyburn Artistic Swimming Clubs. They were coached by Kimberly Neithercut and Meagan Rothwell, both of Weyburn.

Team members included Ava Allen, Sasha Mantei, Sierra Mantei, Rowyn Shier and Isabelle Pyra of Estevan, and Marley Kradovill, Payton Caldwell, Ella Leko and Lily Popescu from Weyburn.

On Monday morning, the competition began with solo preliminaries and then athletes competed personally in the figure event.

Marley Kradovill won first place, Lily Popescu was third, Payton Caldwell placed seventh, and Ella Leko was 10th.

The Tuesday solo finals were as follows:

A-final: Rowyn Shier was fourth with a championship score of 53.6603;

B-final: Isabelle Pyra finished fourth with a championship score of 52.3257; and Sierra Mantei was seventh with a championship score of 49.5727.

In the duet finals, in the A-final, Payton Caldwell and Ella Leko were second with a championship score of 58.2615 for the silver medal.

In the B final, Ava Allen and Sasha Mantei were second with a championship score of 55.6479.

In the team final Wednesday, Team Southeast won the gold medal with a championship score of 58.5147.

The team gave a special thanks to the mission staff, Tina Clay, for her help and support during the Winter Games experience.
