ESTEVAN - A badminton player from the Estevan Comprehensive School has advanced to the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletics Association's provincials.

Dongjun Won qualified thanks to his performance at the regional qualifier Saturday in Wilcox. He finished first in his pool in the round robin, defeating athletes from Lumsden, Invermay and Regina's LeBoldus schools, and not losing a set in the process. His closest set was a 21-15 win against the player from LeBoldus.

He picked up another 2-0 win over an opponent from Yorkton Sacred Heart School in the semifinal to guarantee his spot at provincials, and then lost 2-0 in the final to a student from Luther College in Regina.

Provincials will be May 11 in Nipawin.
