Mankota school holds awards day

Mankota School held its Awards Day on June 23. A number of awards were presented to deserving students. Students with high academic achievements were acknowledged.

Mankota School held its Awards Day on June 23. A number of awards were presented to deserving students. Students with high academic achievements were acknowledged. The Grade 7/8 award for academic achievement was presented to Wyatt Anthony and the Grade 9/10 academic award was shared by Morgan Sayers and Kayla Silbernagel. 

Payton Sayers received the Grade 11/12 high average and the valedictorian awards. Sayers was also presented with the JGL scholarship and an Innovation Credit Union scholarship. She was nominated for a Shulich scholarship for high academic marks in math and science and she received a Shulich Nominee plaque. The SLC plaque was shared by the three Grade 12 students, Kassidy Williamson, Kassidy Silbernagel and Payton Sayers.

The school presented a number of memorial awards. Madison Kress received the Jody Bell award. The Vivienne McIvor memorial award was presented to Jesse Emms. The Francine White Memorial Award was given to Kaitlyn Silbernagel. The Lacy Award was won by Kassidy Silbernagel. Kent Brisebois was presented the Shane Kohl Memorial award. The Dr. G.R. Sherven Memorial Award was shared by Payton Sayers and Kassidy Silbernagel.

The Village of Mankota as well as several businesses sponsored awards for deserving students. The Village of Mankota Art awards were given to Brinn Rieder and Randie Walker. The Citizenship Award was presented to Susanna Loewen for Grade 7 to 9 and to Halley Gavelin for Grade 10 to 12. The Innovation Credit Union Spirit Award went to Kassidy Silbernagel. Morgan Sayers was presented with an award from Legion member, Darcy Zerr, for her third place finish in the Royal Canadian Legion National Essay Contest.

Wyatt Anthony, Susanna Loewen and Damon Rocheleau received bronze medals for placing third in the Cardboard Boat Race in Moose Jaw. There were also awards presented for reading and attendance.

Athletic awards were also given out, including the bantam girls award to Morgan Sayers, the bantam boys award to Bany Loewen, the senior girls award to Payton Sayers and the senior boys award to Shawn Zerr.

Teacher Stan Scribner was presented with a service award on the occasion of his retirement from teaching. He taught in Mankota for 28 years.

Glentworth School also held its Awards Day. Deklen Hanson received a medal at the Elementary track meet in Gravelbourg. Mankota Kindergarten to Grade 3 students and their teachers, Mrs. Anthony, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Sayers, visited the Gravelbourg pool on June 13. The children had fun on the diving board with the help of Mrs. Anthony and Mrs. Wilson and under the watchful eye of lifeguard, Berkley Petersen.
