New training equipment approved for Assiniboia Fire Hall

Approval was given a grant sponsored by SGI that will allow the purchase of new training equipment for the Assiniboia Fire hall.

ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Town Council gathered for a meeting on June 13.

Seated at council table was: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councilors: Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus, and Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe and Kerri Martin. The meeting was called to order 6:35 p.m.

Public acknowledgements were given to Fire Chief Terry LaCelle and Assiniboia Times. The agenda accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Ellert/Grondin.

Minutes of last council meeting May 23 accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

Minutes of the finance and administration committee from February 22, were accepted and adopted as presented. 

Minutes of the Regional Park Authority annual meeting from May 11, were accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Harvey/Fettes.

Fire chief Terry LaCelle presented the Assiniboia Fire Department quarterly report. LaCelle reported a very busy month in June with 11 calls attended. He reported that any call that occurs on Crown land and results in a charge will now be covered by the Crown. 

Approval was given a grant sponsored by SGI that will allow the purchase of new training equipment for the Assiniboia Fire hall. That should all be in place by July 2023.

Riley Malone from the Assiniboia Fire Department participated in the Firefit 2023 Competition. He finished 10th overall in the individual. He was sixth in his age category, second in the Tech 2 event and third in the team relay.  Riley will head to Sarnia, Ontario for Canadian Nationals and World finals, to be held Sept. 13 to 17.

CAO report was given by Clint Mauthe. He reported that all departments are very busy getting ready now for July 1 celebrations. The grandstand was being painted. 

He reported that sand sealing will start July 5.

Unfortunately, due to Health Department regulations the Splash Park will be closed until a plan can be put in place for recirculating the water without going back to the main swimming pool. 

The Assiniboia campground did have a water break which has been fixed and the campground looks good again. 

The CAO report was accepted and adopted as provided. 

A List of paid accounts was presented. After some questions from council this report was accepted and adopted as given. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

Request for Decision

Mill Rate bylaw: third and final reading on the mill rate increase was done. Accepted and approved. Moved by Harvey/Kordus.

Fees and charges bylaw, final reading to the updated bylaw done and accepted.  Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

South Central Mutual Aid EMO Committee: Bob Ellert will join this committee. Moved by Fettes/Grondin.

Wood River Utility Request: A request was received for new home builder for a residential water line to connect to the Wood River Utility. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

Beckie Hydrogeologists: awards the 2023 test drilling and piezometer installation project to Andrews and Sons Drilling Ltd. Moved by Kordus/Grondin.

Landfill Road Maintenance Agreement: entering into agreement with RM73 for a five year agreement of $5,000 per year for maintenance of the Landfill road. Accepted. Moved by Ellert/ Fettes.

Request for Temporary Street Closure: Shurniak Art Gallery request a temporary street closure for their second annual Street Dance. Approved.  Moved by Harvey/Clermont.

The 2022 Audited Financials were accepted as presented. Moved by Harvey/Grondin.

Council presentations were given as to what meetings and or functions they have attended since the last meeting. 

Better together BBQ’s will start of July 4th with Town Council hosting the kick off barbecue. 

The next meeting of Town Council will be held in Chambers on Tuesday, June 27.
