A young student representing Pleasantdale School saw her Remembrance Day artwork soar through local, zone and district competition before it landed in first-place in the provincial adjudication and received an honourable mention in the national finals.

Rebecca Duncan’s coloured poster in the junior category, captured the awards in the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual poetry, essay and poster competitions. She was handed certificates and cash awards for her efforts at the various levels. This was done during a presentation event at the Estevan Branch Legion Hall on the evening of April 17.

Jenna Effa from Midale Central School, received a second place award in the provincial competition in the intermediate essay category. Her work had also achieved first-place status at the local, zone and district levels.

The provincial winners had their work advance to national competitions as well.

At the district level, Rebecca also had a first-place status in the junior poem category. She and Jenna were joined by Torilee Scharnatta of Midale Central who took first-place in the senior essay division.

Earlier in the competition run, Rebecca had not only scored two first-place finishes, but also nabbed a second place status for junior essay submissions.  She, Jenna and Torilee were joined by Mary Cameron of Estevan Comprehensive School who took first-place in the senior coloured poster category and Myranda Whynot, also from ECS, who had a first-place finish in the senior black and white poster division.
