The Assiniboia and District Museum held a Christmas gingerbread tea and gingerbread house display on December 10.
Tables were set up so guests could visit with friends while sampling home-baked Christmas cookies and cakes and sipping tea from dainty porcelain cups. Pastor Bob Scott and Shirley Scott, historical committee member, led a short program of caroling.
The highlight of the annual event was the gingerbread house competition. The gingerbread houses were on display for viewing and judging. There were over a dozen entries competing in three different categories. Judging was based on design as well as on the flavour and quality of the cookie.
The entries showed off a delightful variety of local creativity. There were houses, churches and even a whole farm fashioned out of gingerbread and cake decorations.
Fiona Koetterrle won first place in the children’s category for her miniature-sized house. The winner of the adult category was Pastor Bob Scott, who baked and decorated a gingerbread church. The group winner was Amy Heathcoat and Cecette Roads who create Cinnamon Farm. This unique creation included a gingerbread barn with red icing, cinnamon stick fence, Rice Krispie spruce trees as well as straw and hay bales.
The event included door prizes and raffles as fundraisers. The raffle winner was Jaqueline Lees. The door prizes went to Tracy Selzer and Art Berner.
