Young Africans, a group of youths who were once members of the African Children's Choir, will be holding a concert in Weyburn at the Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m.

Admission is free for all ages, but a freewill offering will be taken to help support programs in Africa.

The Young Africans are a group of singers, musicians and dancers who were all once part of the world-renowned African Children's Choir; now aged 17-21, they are poised to fulfil their promise and make a difference in their communities.

The tour, entitled, "Our African Dream", is a unique and powerful presentation that showcases the best of African dance and music, while also bringing life to American spirituals and contemporary worship songs.

Proceeds from the concerts will allow the African Children's Choir to raise awareness of the plight of millions of orphaned and abandoned children in Africa. Donations will directly support the expansion of sponsorship and education programs for current choir children, and the thousands of other students they represent.

The Music For Life Institute's purpose is to help create new leadership for tomorrow's Africa. Working in seven African countries, this group has educated over 52,000 children and impacted the lives of over 100,000 people through its relief and development programs in its 27-year history.

Many of the children educated through the choir and institute have gone on to graduate studies in different professional fields.

The African Children's Choir has performed on some of the world's greatest stages, and have performed with entertainers such as Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keyes, for leaders like U.S. presidents, Queen Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela, and have appeared on many TV shows like Good Morning America and American Idol.
