Annual Toy Parade set for September 8

The Weyburn Independent Riders motorcycle club will be hosting a number of charitable events in September.

The annual Salvation Army Santa Claus Toy Parade will take place on Saturday, September 8 and all motorcyclists are invited to join in on the action.

"We ask that anyone who wishes to join us to please bring an unwrapped toy to be given to the Salvation Army," said Laurie R. Norman.

The motorcyclists will meet in the parking lot at the Weyburn Junior High between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. At 1:00 they will take Fifth Street North and then they'll turn right onto Douglas Road, travelling East to 16 Street. Then they will go South on 16th to Railway Avenue, right onto Second Street and then North to Prairie Avenue. The route continues from Southbound Third Street to Sixth Avenue South. It will then head down to Confederation Drive and over to Fourth Street South, into River Park for presentation of toys and cash to the Salvation Army.

A Motorcross race event will be held on Sunday, September 9 at the Raymond Giroux Memorial Track, located across from the Weyburn Golf Club. Practice begins at 9:00 a.m. with races starting at 10:30. Admission is $5.00 for adults, youth and seniors and is free for children five and under.

Also on September 9, the Ronald McDonald House Ride will round up its riders at Weyburn McDonald's between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. the motorcyclists will ride down to Estevan and join forces with more riders at the Estevan McDonald's. Then the group will disembark from Estevan at 3:00 and ride to Stoughton via Lampman and Arcola, stop at the Cross Roads Inn for Beef on a Bun and then back to Weyburn in the sunset.
