This weekend people from Arcola and surrounding communities will have the opportunity to participate in two days of entertainment, sports, food and just some good plain fun. On June 15 - 16 the Arcola Fair and Stampede board will hold their very first Arcola Antique Ag Daze at the fairgrounds in the town. The two day event will boast an extensive line-up of activities for patrons, including a mini-market and activities geared towards children. President of the Arcola Fair and Stampede board, Al Fletcher said the occasion is in an effort to rebuild the town's barn that was partially destroyed in a fire about two years ago. He added that the town plans to rebuild the barn turning it into a multipurpose facility. He said that there have however been some challenges, explaining that although Arcola is a town known for fairs and events involving entertainment he said those types of events have slowly come to an end.
"The Arcola Fair quit a couple years ago and we're trying to get something back into Arcola, the Antique Tractor Days are getting popular, we've got a lot of antique stuff in the area and we would just like to display it and draw a crowd," he said
Fletcher said upon completion of the building, the board hopes to start welding courses and various agricultural programs. The board had the Antique Ag Daze in development since February and Fletcher said the board is hoping for a large turnout. Saturday will kick off with a pancake breakfast at the town's fire hall, after which a parade will ensue leading to the "Strongest Kid in Saskatchewan" event with strength athlete Marshall Ennis followed by the Hick Chicks drill team from Austin, Manitoba. There will also be the Arcola Threshers Ball tournament and a batting cage provided for children. As well as inflatable bouncers, carnival games, sack races, a pie eating contest and buggy rides. The day will be topped off with music as the "Cash Back" band will perform authentic Jonny Cash songs.
On Sunday there will be the Marshall Ennis Ultimate Farmland Competition for adults and another performance by the Hick Chicks. As well as an antique parade and tractor pulls among other contests and activities. Fletcher said he hopes people will come out in their numbers and that it will bring adequate entertainment for Arcola and surrounding communities.
