Derek Foster, Canada's youngest retiree, will be speaking at the Weyburn Public Library on August 11 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. During his talk, Foster will explain how his investment strategy allowed him to retire at such an early age. His basic approach was to buy stocks that pay dividends, not treating the stock market like a 'get-rich-quick' lottery. He stuck to boring stocks that offer products and services people use every day - and this approach has worked very well.

Foster 'left the rat race' at the age of 34, which made him Canada's Youngest Retiree, in spite of having spent his twenties backpacking around Europe, Australia, New Zealand and living a number of years in Asia.

Earlier this year, Foster sold his house in Ottawa and decided to embark on a year-long, pan-continental trip around North America, joined by his wife and their five children. After visiting Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, his travels unexpectedly brought him to Weyburn, where he has enjoyed many community activities with his family.

Foster, who is the author of a number of books on the topic of early retirement, will explain his approach and answer any questions that audience members might have. The talk is free and open to anyone.
