A new raffle will help raise funds for the Weyburn Humane Society. Health care workers of the Canadian Public Union Employees (CUPE) Local 5999 will hold the "Safely Home" raffle.

The goal is to purchase identification microchips for the animals at the Weyburn Humane Society, that will be inserted when they get adopted.

"These animals are the often the forgotten group in society, and we want to try to help fix that problem," said Randy Bakaluk, chair of the raffle committee and facility vice-president at Tatagwa View, Weyburn.

"With these chips these animals will never be lost again," added Bakaluk. "With these chips we can be sure these animals will get 'Safely Home'."

He added that the primary job of CUPE members is to look after their loved ones, which includes pets.
The grand prize of the raffle is two tickets to the Labour Day Classic between the Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, an one-night stay at the Chateau Regina Hotel and a $100 gift card at the Keg Restaurant.

Tickets cost $10 for one, or three for $25. They are available for at the CUPE union office at 405 Coteau Avenue, the Weyburn Humane Society, or LJ's Hillside Store on Third Street.
