There is no doubt, the people of Weyburn and surrounding area are generous, and work hard at volunteering for worthy causes and for service clubs and organizations; thus, it is not really very surprising that in a relatively short time both major projects that are fundraising in Weyburn are both doing well.
The Triple C Centre committee, and the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation, each working towards a different project but both for needed facilities for this city, are both doing fairly well, both receiving a major boost from the Cugnet family in the form of $1 million to each organization.
For the Triple C, this commitment was made several months ago but was only just recently revealed to be from the Cugnet family, as per their wishes, and their fund stands at around $2.5 million, and it is in need of roughly another $1 million to reach their goal as part of the Comp renovations.
The donation to the Hospital Foundation now brings that fund to roughly the halfway point to their goal of around $20 million, an impressive accomplishment considering that this foundation got its beginning about four years ago, with serious fundraising efforts in the last couple of years bringing in some major amounts, like the DeLaet golf fundraiser.
If there is one message both organizations should get out to the public, it's to "keep on giving" and don't stop the efforts to fund-raise or to volunteer to help in the fundraising.
While both of these projects are doing well, neither one is done yet. The Triple C Centre construction is at least well underway, and is scheduled to be done by February 2013 as part of the first contract for the Weyburn Comprehensive School.
The big unknown is the new acute-care hospital for Weyburn: when it will be announced, and where, and how much will be committed for it, is up to the province and (on the question of location) the Sun Country Health Region.
One thing was made clear at the Foundation AGM recently, the province has to know that the local 20 per cent will be covered if they're going to provide the 80 per cent for the rest of the project. Therefore, ladies and gentlemen of the Weyburn region, while we've done really well so far, don't let up! Let's maintain the good fight and continue on, starting with DeLaet golf fundraiser on July 10.
