Bauche exhibit

A unique father-daughter art exhibit opens during the week of the Assiniboia Artist Retreat at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia. The gallery is hosting an opening reception for artists Dean Bauche and Dani Bauche-Williams on Thursday, July 20 at 7 p.m. The exhibit runs until August 26. Their exhibit features a collection of paintings called “The Colours of Red: Father, Daughter and Earth’s Pigments”. The works are mostly portraits by Bauche and his daughter that make use of the colour red. Although Bauche is a seasoned artist and his daughter is only beginning her career, their styles and subject themes are similar. Both use bold strokes and deep colours to explore human character through faces.
Dean Bauche is a professional artist, curator, educator and adjudicator. He has 22 years of museum experience as the director of galleries for North Battleford. Bauche works in both traditional and new media, but is best known for his striking watercolors and oil paintings.
Bauche says that his work is influenced by Erica Grimm Vance, Andrew Wyeth, Lucian Freud, Stephen May and Paul Fenniak. In addition, his art reflects his interest in all dimensions of the human conditions, including spirit, body, mind and place. Bauche’s portrait works, on display in this exhibit, reflect his exploration of human character through art. He notes that he knows the subjects of his portraits, but he allows the artistic process to reveal the hidden depths of the person.
Bauche has collected many awards for his works which can be found in national publications as well as private and public collections across Canada. He was awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Commemorative Medal during Saskatchewan’s centennial “in recognition of his outstanding contribution to his community and province as curator, artist, mentor and teacher.”
Bauche frequently adjudicates for the Organization of Saskatchewan Art Councils and is a popular art educator and guest artist across Western Canada. His award winning educational publications are now recommended by Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta Learning and are in schools in Saskatchewan. Bauche works out of his own studio located in Battleford.
