Holly Dauvin and Jacqui Beckett at Artist Colony

New artists welcomed to the Moose Mountain Provincial Park Artist Colony
Artist of the Week - Jacqui Beckett
Jacqui Beckett brought her talents to the Artist Colony

The Artist Colony in Moose Mountain Provincial Park welcomed some new visitors this past week.

Artists Holly Dauvin and Jacqui Beckett showcased and sold their artwork in the colony’s rotating cabin — a cabin that welcomes a different artist each week throughout the summer.

Dauvin and Beckett are both frequent visitors to the Artist Colony and were glad to be back this year.

Dauvin always liked drawing, and slowly developed her skill through several classes. She now works with many different mediums, including acrylics, pastels, coloured pencils and watercolors. She also makes scarves that are eco-dyed, meaning she uses natural pigments to color the various scarves that she sells.

Her inspiration for her art comes from every place imaginable. She draws her creativity from the different points of life that she notices. As she explained, it could be “[a] dug-out, barrel-racing, the neighbour’s sheep…the flowers [or] driving home” that inspires her.

Overall, Holly’s favourite part about her art is getting to meet people and discuss the art that she loves so much.

“Meeting the people [is my favourite part]. You know, just like the art club — the group — is so great and coming here you get to see all the people and they ask you questions, and you find out that they paint and do different things…it’s wonderful.”

Beckett has also always had a love for art. Her art, which is mainly inspired by nature, consists mostly of watercolor painting and acrylic painting, but she has also recently started working with pastels and pottery.

Her art tends towards realism, with the paintings being as close as possible to how they look in reality.

Overall, Beckett explained that her favourite part about doing art is that it is so relaxing.

“For me, it’s very relaxing … If I can make something, whether it’s painting or pottery or just doing crafts with my grandchildren … it makes me happy, and it’s relaxing, and it’s just joyful and time goes by in a snap.”

For those who wish to know more about Dauvin’s art, be sure to follow her Facebook art page. Beckett does not have any media platforms for her art at the moment, but she will hopefully soon have an Instagram page to showcase her art, so be sure to look out for that as well.
