‘Inspired Creativity’ on display at the Shurniak Art Gallery

The finished creation of 'Inspired Creativity' offers viewers with an inspirational and visionary experience.

ASSINIBOIA - An art reception for a new exhibit at the Shurniak Art Gallery, featuring art the “Inspired Creativity” recycled jewelry exhibition by artist Shirley Madden, was held on April 28.

Shirley McGirr was born 1953 in Assiniboia. She currently resides in Calgary, Alberta with her husband David Madden. This art showing is a dedication to her mother and was to be a surprise for her 94th birthday. Her biggest supporter, Irene McGirr of Assiniboia passed away in early April of this year just shy of her 94th birthday.

Shirley works with old and discarded jewelry, jewelry that had been handed down from generation to generation together with other unrelated materials that were once deemed shiny and new. The finished creation now with a renewed purpose provides the viewer with an inspirational and visionary experience. Hence, the subject title of “Inspired Creativity” for this exhibition.

Artist Statement

During retirement I started to fill my time working with old and discarded jewelry, jewelry that had been handed down from generation to generation together with a host of other unrelated materials that were once deemed shiny and new.

Using mixed media I found that I was able to envision a finished work of art in which each jewelry piece plays a vital role in the final image.

The finished creation now with a renewed purpose provides the viewer with an inspirational and visionary experience. Hence, the subject title of this gallery presentation “Inspired Creativity”.

The opportunity to create now becomes endless, you just have to look outside the box.  I hope you enjoy these artistic interpretations as much as I did creating them.

The “Inspired Creativity” exhibit will be on display at the Shurniak Art Gallery until June 21. Residents can view the exhibit during regular hours of the Shurniak Art Gallery.
