The critters are multiplying with each firing of the kiln at Signal Hill Arts Centre.
During the month of May, Kindergarten to Grade 8 students from Weyburn and surrounding areas have been visiting the Signal Hill Arts Centre for the May Clay program.
Under the guidance of instructor, Terry Creuer, professional potter, students have been learning a variety of clay techniques, culminating in the creation of their own pinch pot critters.
From now until June 13, students completed works will be on display in the second floor lounge and studio.
The Student Exhibit, called the "May Clay Critter Village", features the completed works of these students, and new "critters" will be added to the "Village" as they are completed.
Kindergarten to Grade 8 students that have critters on display are from the following schools: Queen Elizabeth School (Gr. 1 and 3), Haig School (Gr. 2 and 4), Souris School (Grade 2 and 4), St.Michael's School (Gr. 3 and 6), Assiniboia Park School (Gr. 4 and 5), Stoughton School (Gr. 6 and 7), Radville School (Gr. 1 and 2), Gladmar School (Gr. 3 and 4), Milestone School (Kindergarten), Oceanman School (K to Gr. 8) & Yellow Grass School (Gr. 7 and 8).
Each May, the Signal Hill Arts Centre gives teachers in Weyburn and area the opportunity to bring their students to May Clay sessions for a morning or afternoon pottery session. This program is generously supported of the Weyburn Young Fellows, the Weyburn Arts Council and the City of Weyburn, allowing schools to participate at a reasonable fee.
Until June 13th the "May Clay Critter Village" viewing hours are Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. until noon - and 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
