James Weir Peoples' Choice exhibition voting has begun

The 29th Annual James Weir Peoples' Choice art exhibition opens for viewing and voting on January 6.

The 29th Annual James Weir Peoples' Choice art exhibition opens for viewing and voting on January 6. As an open exhibition of the works of emerging artists from Weyburn and the surrounding areas, the James Weir is a non-juried exhibition, with the artwork selected by the artists themselves. Each artist has chosen one work that best reveals to you their artistic focus and progress over the last two years.

The artists invite not only the usual patrons of the arts to view their contributions during the month of January but the fresh eyes of new patrons are also always welcome to come out and cast their votes for their three favourite pieces.

New voters will quickly become aware of what regular voters have known for years: that it is indeed challenging to choose just three favourites from the wide variety of artworks on display. The wide variety of mediums used among the competing artists is proof that art takes many forms.

Be sure to visit the Allie Griffin Art Gallery before voting closes at 12:00 noon on January 30.

Voters are then invited to attend the James Weir Peoples' Choice Reception Gala at the gallery, at 7:00 p.m. on January 31. The event is highly anticipated because the public is able to meet the artists and discuss the artworks, as well as to learn which artists have received the top three votes. The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

The Allie Griffin Art Gallery is located at 45 Bison Avenue in the lower level of the Weyburn Public Library. This exhibition is sponsored by the Weyburn Arts Council, SouthEast Connections and Saskatchewan Lotteries.
