Let us work 'the United Way'

The residents of Weyburn and area have shown they are generous, time and time again, with their time and their money when a good cause comes along that everyone can get behind.

The residents of Weyburn and area have shown they are generous, time and time again, with their time and their money when a good cause comes along that everyone can get behind.

The Weyburn and District United Way's annual fundraising event, the 29th annual Communithon, is another such cause that will be held starting Friday morning, Oct. 22, and will run for 33 hours until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Weyburn Comp School's Cafetorium.

During these 33 hours of being on the air, innumerable people from the Weyburn area will showcase their talents, starting with groups from all of the city's schools singing and/or playing instruments and providing entertainment for those in the hall and those watching the broadcast at home.

In addition to those who will continue to fill the hours as individuals, small or large groups, information will be provided during the broadcast about the 13 member agencies of the United Way. These agencies are the charitable organizations which receive the main part of their funding through the United Way, and by receiving these funds are able to provide services to their clients.

In addition to the performers are all the many, many volunteers who make the Communithon possible, from the organizers down to the volunteers who take donations at the site and over the phone, who man the cameras and help the school groups and others be organized in going on or coming off the stage - in short, all those who enable the event to go smoothly.

The goal this year as set by the United Way is to raise $127,900, with the aim to reach this total while on the air. Weyburn has reached the total before while on the air, and this year should be no exception. In return for this funding, these agencies will not do door-to-door canvassing seeking donations, and more importantly, they can carry on their work with people who are in need from all walks of life.

On Oct. 22-23, let's work "the united way" and make this year's Communithon event a success.
