Little Mermaid Jr. musical to entertain on Weyburn’s TC Douglas stage

Former WCS music director Colleen Weimer and daughter Kendra Gonczy teamed up once again to present this musical

The musical story of the fairy tale of The Little Mermaid Jr. will be presented by "Spirit of Grace and Friends" at the T.C. Douglas Performing Arts Centre.

The production can be seen on the evenings of Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, November 10,11 and 13 at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m.

Directed by Kendra Gonczy, with her mother Colleen Weimer as the musical leader, the cast includes Brittany Barber in the lead role as Ariel; Calla Hyrnewich is Ursula the sea witch; Donald Alexander plays Prince Eric; Jyllian Payak is Scuttle the seagull; Brinlee Klapak is Princess Gretta; Camden Husband plays Ariel’s father, King Triton; Pressley Barber is Ariel’s best friend, Flounder; Lila Anderson plays Sebastian; Ryann Fleck and Isabelle Cugnet are Ursula’s henchmen, Flotsam and Jetsam, with Isabelle also playing Chief Louis; and Lydia Bell is Carlotta.

The chorus members, who also have some speaking and singing roles, includes Gabriella Friesen, Lexi Bell, Heidi Bell, Bradie Anderson, Hayleigh Hovanak, Lexi Patterson, Josie Cugnet, Abigail Stewart, Olivia Tatarliov, and Halle Barber.

The musical follows the story of the Disney animated film about a mermaid, Ariel, who falls in love with the surface-dwelling Prince Eric. She makes a deal with Ursula to get human legs, in exchange for the loss of her voice, and she goes up on the surface to meet her prince.

The costume design and seamstress was Kendra Gonczy, who made all the costumes.

Admission is adults $10, students 5-12 are $5, and children under five are free.

Tickets can be purchased at the Grace United Church office.

The current COVID protocols will be observed, including that proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is required for audience members 12 years and over, and masks must be worn by the audience.
