Signal Hill Gallery will be displaying works by members of the Hill Top Painters and the Weyburn Artists Workshop until June 26. A variety of mediums are used for this exhibit, including acrylic, watercolor, mixed media including collage acrylic gel transfer, brush and ink, oil rouging, ceramic/acrylic, pen and ink, as well as scratch board art.

Themes of still life, fantasy, landscapes, floras, heritage buildings, people and more are explored by exhibiting artists Linda McMurdo, Shelley Van de Sype, Erna Murray, Margaret Zelionka, Bonnie Kaip, Doris Anderson, Lois Olson, Mildred Thompson, Roland Olson and Eileen Johnson.

Hilltop Painters is a group of aspiring artists who meet every Tuesday morning (Except July and August) at the Signal Hill Arts Centre, each artist using their own medium of choice. Working together with other artists offers an avenue to share ideas, learn new techniques and help those needing guidance.

Being surrounded by people with similar interests can be very inspiring as well. Once in a while, the Hill Top Painters do group projects and show one another new ways to work with different mediums and art forms. The only requirement to join is to have a SHAC membership, which also allows a ten per cent discount on all classes offered at the centre.

"This is a very relaxed, social time and they invite anyone to join, no matter what their skill level is," said Alice Neufeld, Arts and Culture Director for the City of Weyburn.

The Weyburn Artists Workshop meets monthly, every third Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at SHAC. The group keeps in touch with new things going on in the art world and discusses new art genres. After a short business meeting, they talk about upcoming artists and shows, new art techniques and classes they have attended. Often, one off those attending will give a mini class on using new mediums, drawing, perspective, composition, etc. The group usually does one or two field trips a year, visiting other art shows or galleries, or painting in different surroundings. The charge for membership is $10 per year. The WAW is an excellent avenue for sharing ideas, getting a critique or for socialization with others with similar interests.

Another perk of being a member of these groups is that it allows a person exposure by being able to show their work at the group's annual exhibition at SHAC.
