Local Music Award winner announced

The Committee for the Helen Davidson Music Award has announced that Mikyla Jensen is the winner of this year's $2,000 scholarship. Jensen is a Grade 12 student at the Weyburn Comprehensive School.

The Committee for the Helen Davidson Music Award has announced that Mikyla Jensen is the winner of this year's $2,000 scholarship.

Jensen is a Grade 12 student at the Weyburn Comprehensive School. She is a proficient flautist and pianist, and an accompanist for the school choirs and Calvary Baptist Church congregation.

She studies flute with Marie-Noelle Berthelet and is taking her Grade 10 Examination this June. She is a member of the South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, playing flute and piccolo.A piano student of both Gail Murray and Cherith Alexander, Mikyla has just played her A.R.C.T. Performers Exam.

The presentation of the scholarship will be made at a concert in late August or early September.

The Helen Davidson Music Award honours the contributions of Helen Davidson to the community as a music teacher and church organist for many years.Davidson passed away at the age of 102 on March 5.This award is presented in her memory and helps to encourage local musicians.

Jensen is the daughter of Debbie and Trevor Jensen.
