The Weyburn Police Service responded to 157 calls for assistance during the week of July 8 to 14.
A resident of the northeast area of Weyburn located and turned into police a variety of stolen property on July 8. The investigation determined the articles were stolen from a truck which was parked in the area. The property was returned to the owner, though still missing is a GPS unit. The matter remains under investigation.
Police observed a male on a motorcycle accelerate quickly and doing a catwalk from the area of Fourth Street and Coteau Avenue on July 9. The male was stopped a short distance away and charged with Stunting under the Highway Traffic Act.
On July 10, police were called to a street in the northeast area of Weyburn in regard to a complaints of mischief.
Three vehicles had their tires flattened. The subsequent investigation determined this was in relation to an ongoing neighbourhood dispute and a 22-year-old Weyburn male was charged with tampering with vehicles and will be appearing in court in September.
Also on July 10, the police received a complaint that in the area of the Souris School grounds, a number of youth were causing a disturbance and knocking over garbage cans. Police located a group of individuals, and one youth was issued a ticket for minor possessing liquor and the group was dispersed.
The Police Bike patrol member observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic matter in the northeast area of the city on July 11. The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle and have the driver pull over. A 17-year-old female was charge with impaired driving and driving while over .08. She will be making her first court appearance in August.
Also on July 11, the police were dispatched to a two vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Third Street southeast and Highway 39. There were no injuries. One driver was charged under the highway traffic act for driving without due care and attention.
Police received a complaint of a break and enter and assault in the northeast area of the city on July 12. A 15-year-old male was assaulted by two individuals, who it appears are known to the victim.
Also during the incident several items were stolen from a backyard shed. The victim was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. The investigation into this matter continues.
On July 13, the police attended to the second block of Sixth Street to control traffic after a delivery truck had caught some overhead lines and pulled them down. SaskPower, SaskTel and Access attended and repaired the downed lines.
Police received a complaint of a hit and run that had occurred at a local downtown restaurant on July 13. The matter remains under investigation.
Also on July 13, the police received a complaint from a local business, reporting a break and enter where the suspect(s) entered the business and damaged a computer system which controlled the operation of the business. The matter remains under investigation.
Later that same day, the police attended to a shoplifting complaint from a local business. As a result of the information supplied a suspect vehicle was later located with a large amount of stolen property.
Two males, ages 17 and 18, are charged with theft under $5,000 and will be making their first appearance in court in August.
On July 14, the police received a complaint of a vehicle getting stolen from a local hotel, while the owner was working. The vehicle was later located back near the hotel and the subsequent investigation determined that a person known to the victim had stolen the vehicle. A 30-year-old male was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and will make his first appearance in court on July 24.
The police attended to a two vehicle motor vehicle accident on July 14 at the intersection of 14th Street northeast and Coteau Avenue after a half ton truck failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a construction truck. The driver of the half ton truck was charged under the Highway Traffic act with failing to obey a stop sign.
Also on July 14, the police observed a fight start between two males in the vicinity of a downtown bar. After police broke up the fight, two 21-year-old males were charged under the fighting bylaw. The Weyburn Police Service also attended to seven noisy party complaints this week, one incident resulted in a male being charged under the noise bylaw.
