The Triple C Centre will work in collaboration with Eltje Degenhart, a former local artist and art teacher, in an "Art is a Part of the Heart" exhibition.
The one-day exhibition will be held at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. The wine and cheese reception will focus on the "Right at My Feet" screen print that was created by Degenhart.
Talking about the silkscreen print, Degenhart said, "I was inspired by this little twig (of fall) that was shining in the light, and thought it would make a great image. So I took a picture of it, and started working on creating prints of the piece."
Known for his stunning landscapes, Degenhart has an impressionistic style, with many of his paintings portraying prairie spaces. He is also well known for his prints, and started his painting career in screen printing.
His goal was to create 100 unique silkscreen prints of the image, and then put them on the market. When asked why he selected to work in collaboration with the Triple C Centre, Degenhart said, "I am an old Weyburnite, I always will be."
"My heart is still in Weyburn and I believe in this cause. I think it is the right time to have a centre like this one," added Degenhart. "It might also be a good way to kick off other fundraisers."
The silkscreen prints will be sold at $300, with a portion of the funds going to the Triple C Centre. As there are only 100 of the prints available, residents are encouraged to attend the one-day exhibition to claim theirs.
In addition to the one-day exhibition, Degenhart will do a presentation on how the print was done. The silkscreen prints were all manufactured using a automatic screen printing press, instead of being done by hand.
Degenhart will also make a presentation on the advantages of creating prints, and how each one of the pieces being sold can be considered a unique piece.
He is also excited to return to Weyburn, where he grew up and taught art at the Weyburn Comprehensive School. Degenhart retired from teaching in 2001 after 27 years, and since then has devoted himself to painting full time.
