"Vimy", a poignant play about four Canadian soldiers at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, will be presented at the Weyburn Comprehensive School Cafetorium on Saturday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. Written by Canadian playwright Vern Thiessen, the play will be presented by Bzzt! Trap Door Theatre of Saskatoon and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Weyburn.

The story opens with four soldiers: an Aboriginal from Alberta, a French Canadian, a Scotsman from Winnipeg and a Maritimer. Each is recuperating from his injuries at Vimy but does not remember all that happened. The story flashes back to the event with a number of twists and turns involved in the Battle at Vimy Ridge, which cemented Canada as an independent nation on the world stage in April of 1917.

The staging is unique and the wardrobe and weapons authentic. Elizabeth King, who grew up in Weyburn, is stage managing the show and pointed out that there are over 200 cues relating to sound, lights, and special effects.

This small glimpse of one of Canada's finest moments is a chance to remember the sacrifice of very diverse Canadians at Vimy Ridge.
