Weyburn celebrates Culture Day

A Weyburn Culture Day Celebration is being held today (September 30) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion.

A Weyburn Culture Day Celebration is being held today (September 30) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion.

There will be a wide assortment of table displays featuring both in town and out of town artists and craftspeople, the Weyburn Artists Workshop, Hill Top Painters, Weyburn Pottery Club, South Sask. Photo Club, Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre, Soo Line Historical Society, Weyburn Writers Group, Help International, Weyburn & District Genealogical Society, South East Connection for Sport, Culture & Recreation, Weyburn Wood Carvers, Crocus 80 Theatre, SE Regional Library - Weyburn Branch, Sun Country Kids Club, Feral Goddess, Canadian Mental Health Association, Weyburn Family Place, ZumbAtomic, Special Olympics and Weyburn & District Multicultural Council.

If the weather is cooperative, there may also be other displays in Memorial Park across from the Legion Hall.

The Weyburn Pottery Club will be on hand to do demonstrations in clay and the Weyburn Wood Carvers will be doing wood demonstrations. The Weyburn Artists Workshop/Hill Top Painters will be doing Scratchboard Art and Regina Artist "Gerri Ann Siwek" will be presenting a cartooning workshop for scheduled classes from the schools.

Entertainment will run on stage all day long with the schedule as follows:

10:15 - 11:00 Sharon Elliott playing the harp

11:15 - 12:00 Gerald Goski playing the accordion

12:00 - 12:30 Angeline Braat with ZumbAtomic

12:30 - 1:00City of Weyburn presentations and Cake cutting

1:15 - 2:00Evie Alexander playing the violin

2:15 - 3:00Alfredo Aguiar playing a blend of music from various genres

3:00 - 3:30 Leah Rebrinsky singing and playing piano

3:30 - 4:00Weyburn Dance Zone various dances

Culture Days is a local, provincial and national celebration of culture that aims to increase the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in Cultural activities in their communities. It includes all areas of culture: arts, heritage, multicultural, ethno-cultural, First Nations, Metis cultures and creative industries.

There is no charge to participate. This event is happening to give our local arts, culture and heritage groups and individual artists in the community a chance to promote what they offer and a chance for the general public to participate.
