Breakup is here, and it’s curling and conference time

At its customary time of year, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure removed winter weights for all of Saskatchewan's highways at 12:01 a.m. on March 15. Winter weights allow trucks to haul more weight on secondary weight highways.

At its customary time of year, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure removed winter weights for all of Saskatchewan's highways at 12:01 a.m. on March 15.

Winter weights allow trucks to haul more weight on secondary weight highways.  Winter weather freezes the roadbed, allowing roads to sustain additional weight without incremental damage occurring on the roads.

25th Williston Basin Petroleum Conference

The 25th Williston Basin Petroleum Conference takes place in Regina, May 2-4 at Evraz Place. The event alternates between Regina and Bismarck, N.D.

Last year the blockbuster speaker was none other than Donald Trump, who on that day was confirmed as the Republican candidate for president. At the time, he announced he would approved the Keystone XL pipeline, but he wanted a piece. Trump was elected president the following November, and, shortly after his inauguration, took executive action to get that pipeline approved, inviting TransCanada to resubmit its application for the pipeline.

This year’s version of the show doesn’t have that sort of star power, but it will have presentations on forecasting reserves, faulting systems, Viking potential, Bakken and Three Forks (what Canadians call Torquay) stratigraphy, Bakken hydrogeology, light and tight enhanced oil recovery and new approaches and tools for the same. Refracking will also be discussed. Additionally, each of the represented provinces and states are expected to provide an update.
