Hayley & Cayden Mother’s Day committee donates $10,000 to RMHC

The Hayley and Cayden Mother’s Day Run has raised over $77,000 in memory of Hayley and Cayden (nee Wilcock).

ASSINIBOIA - What do you get when you put a great cause and a tremendous community together? You get a gorgeous day, 193 participants, and over 70 sponsors, and volunteers to raise $10,000 for the very worthy Ronald McDonald House Charities in Saskatoon.

Members from the Hayley and Cayden Mother’s Day Run committee presented the cheque to Ronald McDonald House Charities earlier this fall.

Committee members included the 2023 Hayley & Cayden Mother’s Day Run Committee: Les and Melanie Wilcock, Cara Wilcock-Wolynec, Alison Lewis, Joanne Romanow, Helene Ray and Kaitlin Oancia.

The organization was so thankful and the committee, after having a tour of the facility, couldn’t be more thrilled the monies raised was going there.

This non-profit organization, through the support and generosity of local donors and volunteers, provides a comfortable and safe space for families while caring for their sick child during medical treatment in Saskatchewan.  The families have access to medical- free spaces, meals and amenities while they are away from their homes, jobs and other support systems.

Alison Lewis shared that “the facility has thought of so many things that can help all members of the family during such difficult times.  It is incredible,”  added the Wilcocks.

“They seem to have thought of everything that a family could need in those troubled times … food, treats, toys, clean spacious rooms.  There is a beautiful garden area which is not only practical with vegetables and flowers but it also serves as a quiet area to be alone.  It could be a retreat to be with one’s self if needed or just for a breath of fresh air.”

“There are activity rooms for families to play together and pass the time in and well-stocked cooking areas for families to make their meals and have something that reminds them of home.  Common rooms are also available to mix with other families with similar needs for a chance to talk and hopefully support each other.  It is just amazing to see!”

The Hayley and Cayden Mother’s Day Run has raised over $77,000 in memory of Hayley and Cayden (nee Wilcock) who lost their lives from Interpersonal Violence in 2012.

Funds raised over the past decade have gone to Hayley and Cayden’s Memorial Fund at ACHS, Moose Jaw Transition House, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, The Civic Improvement Association in Assiniboia, STARS Ambulance - Saskatchewan, Telemiracle, Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, and this year, the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Saskatoon.

“Our community has been so wonderfully supportive of our events.  We couldn’t do it without their help as participants, donors, sponsors or volunteers!  We wish to thank them for making a positive difference in so many lives of people living in Saskatchewan.”
