One of Weyburn's earliest residents, Sam Metheral (at far right on wagon) poses with his hired men atop a wagon he used to haul coal and wood to residents around Weyburn, in this photo taken a century ago, in 1913. Metheral, the grandfather of current Weyburn resident Ron Metheral, sold his business to Aitken Coal and Wood, who had a location on Railway Avenue, in 1930. Metheral homesteaded in 1901 after coming here from Creemore, Ont., with four sons and a daughter, and bought his farmstead from the Wilke family, who then moved up to Yellow Grass. If anyone has a historic photo showing residents in an activity or at an event from the last 100 years, they are invited to submit it to the Weyburn Review, along with any names and/or details about the photo to help our readers mark the centennial of the City of Weyburn. Please e-mail your photos to production@weyburnreview.com or drop it by at 904 East Avenue.
