It is an interdependent community where people rely on their neighbours and everyone is connected to a business, if not multiple businesses, in some form.

Local businesses, therefore, are extremely important. If their head offices are located somewhere else, it doesn't matter, they are still local businesses as they are run in the area, provide job opportunities for many here, and give back to the community taking pride in being based here. Local businesses provide a boost to the economy allowing more money to stay in the community, whether through the payment of taxes or donations they make to various clubs and organizations.

Businesses support a variety of community groups from schools and sports groups, to those who are fundraising for any type of event. Local businesses are asked by many for donations whether in the form of cash or a prize to help raise money for a variety of causes.

From the Carlyle and District Leisure Centre upgrades to Junior Golf Tournament prizes, businesses and business people in the area like to support the community in any way they can. Even if unable to donate at that time often they will attend the event or spread the news that it is happening through word of mouth or allowing posters to be put up in their place of business.

Quite often without the generous businesses who donate to different causes fundraisers wouldn't succeed in quite the same way. Successful events would often not be possible to the extent that it is in the area now during fundraising auctions and tournaments, as there would be little to bid on and few prizes to be won.

The fact that local businesses do give back to the community, if they are able to, is something which is greatly appreciated by all. It is also rewarding to the business knowing they are supporting their community.
