Sun Country Health Region has extended its Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) support group program to the residents of the White Bear First Nation. The first session was held September 16 at the White Bear Health Centre.
Subsequent sessions will be held 10 a.m. to noon at the White Bear Health Centre on October 21, November 18 and December 16.
"We believe these support groups are very useful to the people who have experienced a brain injury, and to their families," says Natalie Bieberdorf, Regional Manager, Therapies Department for Sun Country Health Region. "We want to locate them as conveniently as our resources allow, so we are happy to help create this group for White Bear residents."
ABI support groups provide information and support to families and survivors who have had a moderate to severe brain injury.
Topics discussed may include: Challenges and Triumphs, Coping with Loss, Changes to Roles and Relationships, Balancing Dependence and Independence, and Communication Challenges.
Other support groups this fall and their locations are:
Weyburn ABI support group: Tatagwa View 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 1, November 4 and December 2.
Redvers ABI support group: Redvers Health Centre 11-1 p.m. on October 15, November 12 and December 9.
Estevan ABI support group: St. Joseph's Hospital Auditorium, 1-3 p.m. September 23 and October 28.
