If old fashioned luxury cars are your fortes, Alida was just the place for you Saturday, Aug. 10. The third annual Show and Shine event at the Lucky 13 bar in Alida, was a huge crowd pleaser.
Despite the rain several cars showed up for the day, with some convertibles leaving during the down pours to save their interiors. What was unusual in this specific display of cars, was a large Combine, towering higher than the majority of the province's buildings. This red beast was keeping the event in the family, as it belonged to the nephew of the bar owners, Debbie Fraser and Paul Ionson.
Not only did the day have cars, but also allowed for a few local talents to take the stage to pleasure the ears of guests. The stage saw all ages from young elementary aged kids to elderly people.
The Lucky 13 is open year long and is quite a hotspot. The bar's decor includes several inspirational quotes and photos of old icons such as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. But perhaps the most unique decoration is the 13 bras hanging from a top the shelves. The tradition is homage to Coyote Ugly, and bras are taken off in exchange for a free shot.
The crowds on Saturday night were lucky to be treated to great food and drinks as the Show and Shine day time parade and car show turned into a night time street dance. The owner, Fraser, was proud to watch her husband fill in with the showcase band, Product of Canada, which also stars her son Fraser Yates on bass guitar.
The crowd mingled and danced the night away, happily listening to several classics such as the Last Pirate of Saskatchewan and a few well written originals.
The owners are already excited for next year and were extremely satisfied with the turn out considering the poor weather.
