Anglican Church to 'Bless Animals' during a service

The All Saints Anglican Church will conduct its first annual "Bless the Animals" service on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Gardner officiating. This event will support the Weyburn Humane Society, and all pets will be welcomed during the service.

The Weyburn Humane Society performs a vital service in rescuing animals that are abandoned or abused. One of their jobs is to pick up roaming animals, particularly dogs that can become a danger to small children or other pets.

One of the struggles for the Weyburn Humane Society is to meet its mandate because of lack of funding.

"My husband and I have acquired two dogs from the Weyburn Humane Society, one of which had been badly abused and neglected as a puppy," said Carmen Stephens, chair of the All Saints outreach committee.

"We were pleased to offer them a good home, and have watched them develop and mature into loving pets."

"We are therefore very conscious of the need to provide support to the Humane Society, without which these animals would not have had any hope of survival," added Stephens.

All sizes, shapes and kinds of pets are welcome at the service on Oct. 1 provided they are accompanied by their owners, or a responsible adult. All offerings from the service will be donated to the Humane Society.
