The Weyburn Police Service attended to a residence to speak with a 29-year-old man regarding erratic and threatening behaviour on Saturday, and the incident turned into a standoff with the police.

As the member was speaking to the subject, he brandished what appeared to be a high powered rifle. The subject had earlier indicated that he wished to die by "suicide by police". The member quickly withdrew from the situation.

The residence and perimeter was secured with the assistance of the Weyburn, Milestone, Fillmore, Avonlea and Regina RCMP. The Regina RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) was activated.

Prior to ERT arriving the man called the Weyburn police and after speaking with a Weyburn police crisis negotiator agreed to turn himself in. He was arrested without further incident.

A 29 year old local male is currently in custody facing a charge of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be laid.

Due to the semi-isolated location of the residence no neighbouring houses or people were in immediate danger.
