Assaults being investigated with charges pending

Estevan Police Service (EPS) members were dispatched to the 500 block of Third Street on Jan. 13 to assist emergency medical personnel with a medical emergency situation. Police were involved in extricating a person from a small home while assisting EMS attendants who were directing the exercise.

The person requiring attention was successfully removed from the house and transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for further medical treatment.

That same day police received several complaints from local school bus drivers who were reporting that local drivers were not stopping for the flashing red lights and stop arms that were deployed by the bus operators while picking up or dropping off students.

Several drivers have been charged as a result of their actions and police have issued a reminder to drivers that it is necessary to stop for school buses when the flashing red lights and stop arms are activated and to continue to watch out for children crossing the streets. Traffic is required to stop behind and in front of the buses when the lights and stop arms are activated. The fine for failing to do so is $360.

On Jan. 14, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Fourth Street and 12th Avenue. Police and EMS personnel attended the scene to assist a 39-year-old Estevan woman who had been struck by the vehicle. She was transported to hospital suffering from minor injuries and was retained overnight for observation. The incident remains under investigation.

Numerous traffic accidents were reported to police on Jan. 14 due to slippery road conditions. No injuries were reported, but a number of vehicles were damaged beyond drivability and had to be towed from various accident scenes.

A report of a vehicle leaving the street and ending up in the front yard of a local residence led to police investigation on Jan. 15. The vehicle had left the scene prior to police arrival, but they were able to locate the vehicle in question a short time later. Charges are pending.

On the night of Jan. 16, police observed an oilfield company truck being driven erratically in the central part of the city. When the vehicle was stopped, a 19-year-old operator was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He now has a February court date.

That same night EPS members attended to the Pleasantdale area of the city following up on a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived at the scene, they took a 35-year-old woman into custody while they continued their investigation.

On the night of Jan. 20, a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in public and for being in breach of the conditions of an undertaking. A subsequent check on the man's record revealed he had a number of outstanding warrants levied against him.

A report of two people being assaulted along Dufferin Avenue on the night of Jan. 20 or early morning hours of Jan. 21 resulted in police attending the scene along with EMS personnel.

A 28-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital suffering from injuries.

Police have established an investigation into the incident and are currently seeking three men and one woman as possible suspects who are believed to have been responsible for the assaults.
On the night of Jan. 21, a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with being in breach of an undertaking. He was also brought before the court on Jan. 23 under an allegation that he was breaching the conditions of a sentence order.

On the night of Jan. 22, a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged for aggravated assault, being in breach of an undertaking and being in breach of a probation order. He was remanded in custody pending a Jan. 23 court appearance.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon on the night of Jan. 22 or early morning of Jan. 23.

On Jan. 22, a 24-year-old man was arrested and lodged in cells for being intoxicated in public.
