Warm sunny weather may have made it difficult for students to go back to school, but the majority will be looking forward to the start of extracurricular activities. Tuesday, Sept. 4 marked the first day back for GFK and Carlyle Elementary students, but it also marks the beginning of many sports seasons, dance seasons and other exciting activities. There are several options for the boys and girls during the fall and winter seasons. Not only can students take part in volleyball, golf, track, basketball and all the school sports, but dance registration and hockey registrations are all happening as well.Minor hockey registration was held Thursday, Sept. 6 in the rink lobby, with sign up for intensive camps also available. The registration for Carlyle Dance Effex was also held this week on Sept.4. Now there are always people raving about sports season but don't forget about the variety of clubs Carlyle has to offer. Air Cadets is offered for youth ages 12-18 and offers a rewarding experience, filled with real life lessons and, of course, a few educational trips. The Pentecostal Assembly holds the boys and girls club for children ages three to 12, as well as the Shockwave Youth program for the older kids.Young people can also learn how to better the world and themselves, while honouring the Scouts promise and law at Carlyle Cub Scouts.Of course we can't forget about Girl Guides and Brownies. These young women get to meet new friends and earn badges for each exciting skill they learn and adventure they go on. Children can start the Girl Guide process at the age of five by attending Sparks and eventually make their way up to Pathfinders, ending their youth journey when they are fifteen. Karate runs Tuesday eveningsfrom September to June at the Carlyle Elementary School. There are classes for aged five to eight, eight to 12, and even adults.Of course when winter comes kids will get to join in on curling, skating and snowmobiling. So don't let your kids get dragged down by school, encourage them to take a break once or twice a week to get involved with a community activity. For a small town, Carlyle really does have it all!
