The RCMP is asking for public assistance in identifying a suspect in a series of robberies taking place in Southern Saskatchewan over the past year, said Sgt. Kelly West of Regina RCMP’s General Investigation Section on June 22. Since May 2016, six robberies and two attempted robberies have occurred at financial institutions in southern Saskatchewan.
A bank in Pangman was robbed on May 13, 2016. A bank in Hodgeville was robbed on June 24, 2016. Pangman was hit by another bank robbery on January 4, 2017. Then a robbery was attempted at a bank in Pangman on February 6 this year. A bank in Holdfast was robbed on March 10. The Credit Union branch in Glentworth was robbed on May 17 and there was an attempt at robbery on June 5. Then a week later on June 13, a bank in Central Butte was robbed. The RCMP reported that in all cases no staff or customers were harmed physically.
RCMP investigators have noted similarities in these eight incidents. The description for the suspect was similar – an adult male, 40 to 50 years of age with a heavy set or stocky build and 5’5” to 5’8” tall.
This individual was reported to be wearing dark balaclavas or toques, gloves, a grey hooded sweater, a tan coat, an orange hoodie with an Under Armour logo on the front, a camouflage or dark coat. The suspect was also reported to have gotten away in vehicles described as a grey van, a red SUV, an older model dark coloured Chevrolet extended cab truck, possibly a Silverado model.
The RCMP asks if anyone recognizes this individual to contact the local police service. Those reporting can remain anonymous by calling, texting or emailing Crime Stoppers, which does offer cash rewards for information provided.
Safety has been a first priority. West stated that the RCMP wanted to assure the public that they have been investigating the similarities in these robberies for a period of time. Local RCMP detachments and the General Investigation Section in Regina are continuing to investigate.
